She's probably one of the greatest French soprano with Renee Doria, Regine Crespin and Mady Mesple. When I was young, I first heard Thais with Beverly Sills and I thought the opera was boring. I heard it later with Esposito and was totally hooked. It tells a lot about the importance of interpretation! Now I don't want to make any harsh judgment on Sills, some people might love her voice in this too but to me, it can't compete with one of the best singers of the French tradition.

je suis d'accord avec vous à une exception près celle de Mady Mesplé qui me semble d'un niveau inférieur aux autres, dans votre liste il manque de Suzanne Sarocca qui fut à la même époque que les autres une formidable soprano.
