Churchill is quoting English poet and political scientist Thomas Babington Macaulay's poem The Lays of Ancient Rome.
Then out spake brave Horatious,
The Captain of the Gate,
To every man upon this earth,
Death cometh soon or late,
But how can man die better,
Than facing fearfull odds,
For the ashes of his fathers
And the Temples of his gods.
Good poem I'd recommend googling it and reading the whole thing. Churchill memorized it at age 13.
