  • Churchill is quoting English poet and political scientist Thomas Babington Macaulay's poem The Lays of Ancient Rome.

    Then out spake brave Horatious,

    The Captain of the Gate,

To every man upon this earth,

    Death cometh soon or late,

But how can man die better,

    Than facing fearfull odds,

For the ashes of his fathers

And the Temples of his gods.

Good poem I'd recommend googling it and reading the whole thing. Churchill memorized it at age 13.

  • This was an amazing movie. I have rewatched it many times already.

  • "Russia got Berlin! The USA got the spoils of war, and england was still stuck with it's dum-king!"

  • @RJY4356 "He looks nothing like George, where were you looking?? "

  • @nickt371 : Si right ! And i wrote the poem below, for my childhood memories, and the ghosts of perfums of another rime.

  • 8:30 - 8:50 made me choke up and cry for just a moment.

  • I can't get over how much the magnificent actor playing King George VI looks so exactly like the real man, especially in the most wonderful scene from 8:20-8:50. Wow!!!
