@donnomar It wasn't the Army who developed the internet, but close. It was more specifically the US Department of Defense and their Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA, which is where the Internet's orignal name, ARPAnet, comes from). DARPA is in charge in designing, seeking, and developing technologies for all branches of the US armed forces. And the Internet was one of them, the military in need of a communications network that could withstand a nuclear attack.

I know that, you know that, Al Gore should have known that. So my point is, You can not beleave Al Gore. If he took credit for inventing the internet, you should take a close look about his global warming bull#$#@!

get this shit. im 1973 ethernet reached speeds of 4mbit/sec. thats pretty fucking fast i mean i pay alot for my isp and i get 7.5mbit/sec only

And Al Gore did no invented the internet, he claimed once he was part of the congress men who approved the legislation to impreve the telecomunications and that allowed the ARMY to designe and implement the internet. He help to approve the proposal at the govement level, but he did not invent the internet. Take in to account he was not the only supporter of the internet at the time, as it was in the middle of the cold war and every body was paranoic about a nuclear attack. Internet was a must.

No ethernet did not became internet, they are completly different things. Ethernet is designed originally for local area networks. Internet is a protocol designed by the ARMY to create a network that would allow comunication even after a nuclear strike becasue Internet is decentralized as it works by independent nodes, as long as some nodes are alive you can still have communication. Intenet uses a protocol named TCP/IP you can use ethernet to connect to the Internet.

Ethernet is dangerous for telco networks because, being packet switched, it cannot ,by its nature, offer circuit management. Telcos musy be able to manage the physical network.
