For all you Lion King on Broadway fans - I'd like to share a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I got a few months ago - This is an exclusive backstage interview with Willie Wilson, the longtime Puppet Supervisor for The Lion King's touring cast, conducted in the actual puppet and mask workshop.

I was fortunate to catch Willie during the show's run in Seattle last February and get to see the masks and puppets up close and ask him a few questions to do a news story for the local paper, which can be read here.

Enjoy the video, and hopefully you can learn a little about this amazing production and the intricate masks and puppets that grace the stage.

  • Great video! What an amazing opportunity. May I ask where you got the audio for the "new" version of Circle of Life reprise? The only English language recording I can find is the original Broadway cast, and that's the old, shorter version of that song. Thanks! :)

  • @Nantsingonyama Thanks, and yes it certainly was! That clip of the Circle of Life Reprise came from the South African Cast Recording. That's my favorite album of the soundtrack, it sounds like it was recorded right out of the pit. I can't remember where I bought mine - it was either Amazon or eBay... but it's very hard to find nowadays.

  • @lionking300 Thanks for the info! I'm working on finding it now, you're right, it seems very rare.

  • @JaimeDaviesWelshHero But he loves it.

  • He looks like he has such a great time demonstrating the puppets, especially Zazu.

  • wow.

  • Id hate to have to worry about controling a mask while in character.

  • You feature some pretty awesome videos. I'm glad I subscribed. Always wondered about this show.
