When the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, Richard Engel was a freelance reporter in Baghdad with no credentials and little support. Five years later, Engel is a veteran war correspondent. He has covered all facets of the conflict. Now Chief Foreign Correspondent for NBC News, he spoke to VOA's Kane Farabaugh in Chicago about the challenges of covering news in a war zone.
I'm surprised how few comments there are. Iraq isn't the only main problem in the middle east. The Iraqis before the war wondered why Iraq was targeted, and not some other country with more weapons and terrorists. Surprisingly, Richard was the only American reporter left who stayed through the whole war.
