Paul Whiteman had twelve #1 songs in 1921--an amazing record for any musician in any era. Among those top songs was this fun little number, written by Irving Berlin.

"Say it With Music" was America's #1 song for five weeks in '21 (it originated in the ("Music Box Revue" --it also served as Whiteman's signature tune.

  • Sang this in Choir and loved it :D

  • Paul Whiteman certainly didn't have 12 No.1 hits in 1921! He had five - "Wang Wang Blues", "My Mammy", "Cherie", "Song of India" and this one. Paul Whiteman was the King what comes to record selling in the 20s, but even he couldn't be No.1 all of the time.

  • My mom was born 90 years ago, it is so much fun to see what people were into back then. Did they have a best selling pop sing 90 years ago ? my dad use to sin, How ya gonna keep em down on the farm ( He'd be 95 ) ..

  • I think that MGM always wanted to make a movie called "Say it with music" with Judy. Needless to say it never happened. I love this version! Thanks so much for the post and have a happy labor day weekend!

  • People like you are really doing a great service to us all. You're not just uploading a song, you're introducing a whole new generation of people to a music that would be lost if not for individuals like yourself keeping it alive for us all to enjoy. Thank you.

  • Love this, many heartfelt thanks for sharing!

  • This is still the best rendition of the song
