After overhauling, buying parts and wrenching this old girl, I was finally able to start her up. This is not a cold start btw. I found her when I was 18, and purchased her shortly after. I was in debt of course, so I spent the next 1,5 years working to pay it off. At the same time I was half-way through highschool, I even bought the bike the day before my midterm exams. I apologise for the quality to those who think its not good enough, but keep in mind this is the second startup after shes been sitting around doing nothing, and I just had to make a film, so we grabbed the nearest camera. When I get the time and a good camera, Ill make another vid.
And for those wanting a little more specs: this is a 1949 panhead engine with post 1965 shovelhead topends. The frame is a 1955´, hence the year. And the gearbox is from 1961. The engine does not appear to have been taken apart since it was put together like this, and as you can hear, she runs like a champ! She has a spring seat and a mousetrap (clutch booster). The pipes where made for the previous owner, who also made the oil tank himself by hand. While in my possession, Ive put on the mini apehangers (wide glide style), put on the sparto taillight, overhauled the gearbox and redone the front drum brake.
This bike had 2 previous owners here in DK, and before that it was a UK bike. If anyone recognizes it, I would very much want to talk to any previous owners to help shed a little light on the bikes past.
This project has been the biggest in my book, Ive always wanted a bike like this and Ive always know it should be a harley, their just pure art when done right (after ones own head). The biggest variable in this equation is my dad, He taught me everything there is to know about engines. And I couldnt have overcome this project without him. He has been riding a great deal of his life, but first got hooked on harleys and bought one the year I was born. Needless to say Ive always been familiar with the american rumble. He got me started on dirtbikes by the time I was 3 years old, and of course I got hooked on bikes too, the old ones that is. So now my dad and I have a small collection of old bikes, and its still expanding.
So thanks for watching (and reading if you could overcome everything I wrote!), and please leave a message! let me know what you think! Hope to see you riders out there in a few days! Ride free and be safe...
