At the end of a long practice session the girlfriend and I decided to read a transcription of Meditation on the First Prelude of J. S. Bach by C. Gounod. Alas I was tired, so I down an octave it went, but it almost worked anyway.

  • nice video, but I would watch your arm/elbow movement. 1, it distracts your audience. 2, extraneous movement can shift your embouchure and make you crack notes.

It was a good read though! nice job.

  • @tubademon999

I have never had a director/conductor ask me for less physical movement. Extraneous embouchure movement will get you every time though.

  • I really like your tone, too. And I would NOT like it nearly as well an octave up!

  • Thanks. On a smaller horn I think it works better at the written octave as opposed to what I played here. Of course, if I were a better player I'm sure I could make it work on any horn regardless of tessitura.

  • Tuba is a nice intrument but that meditation sounds really terrible, you play it like 2 octaves below, you should play some other music.

  • Woohoo! first negative comment on youtube!

  • Agreed. I believe we all have our own taste and can play whatever is appeasing to us. Tuba and Harp might not be normal, but why not do news things with music? If everybody stuck with the same formula then things would get boring.

To each their own though. Everybody has their own opinion.

  • i don't know what those people are talking about, but i think this is absolutely phenomenal.

    thank you.

  • @picoj no, you wouldnt have a director tell you that, because he has approx. 80 other people to watch, that are all sitting in front of you. But, just about any private teacher will tell you that the movement is unnecessary. And, arm flapping does not make you look good. It looks like a bird playing tuba. Again, this is not an attack. I am offering my wisdom that my professors have offered to me. that's all.

  • Really nice playing!

    I love this piece.

Check out my cover on my channel

  • Sorry but the tuba kills it.

However definitely better than I expected! You're a great musician!

  • a violin, flute, oboe, viola, or cello would blend well with a harp

  • I really like tuba as an orchestra instrument, but as a solo instrument with harp?!. I agree with your opinion +Good comment :D

  • Harp and tuba don't sound that great
