Mix some baby shampoo with water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on your gas lines and wait for about 30 seconds. If it bubbles, you have gas leaks.
It's funny but it works. I bought my house 2 years ago. I've smelled gas every time I came into the furnace room so I called my gas company. The inspector came and told me that's normal and to keep the room ventilated. I've had other work done in basement and was told by contractors that they smell gas. Had gas company inspector come 2nd time and was told the same. I put shampoo on the pipe today and holy shit big bubbles forming at the bottom connection! Thanks for the info.
