Just a quick comment, I am in ASL 2 right now in High School as a sophomore. And although I may not of understood 5 minutes of sign, I can tell you there is such thing as Deaf Culture. I learn something new about deaf people and their cultural customs, traditions, beliefs, etc. every day in class! Before people jump to conclusions about if there is a real Deaf Culture or not, they need to do research or take a class, talk to a deaf person, SOMETHING before they judge from their opinions.

Yes, That's true and I agree with you. I really enjoy to watch your vlogs. why? your heart in value of deaf culture and pervious ASL rules as so am I.

@deafchipmunk maybe you have a hard time with the American freedom of speech culture? ;) That is what blogs and vlogs are for-to discuss. People either share facts or express their opinions based on their perception of certain facts. Not everything is absolute. See my comment to Leslie above. It's the American way. I shared some of what was happening with my co-workers, they agreed with me about opinions, everyone is entitled to theirs. Even you! It does not mean a person is right.

Leslie, there are differences when one speak of culture in general as compared to "ethnic culture". There are all kinds of culture. Is there a deaf culture? Sure, it's no different from gay culture, hipster culture, punk culture, Deaf "Ethnic" culture? It is questionable. Do check out the link I posted in my latest post towards the end of the comment section, within that link is a chart. Not quite "absolute", nevertheless, something for one to ponder. Remember: ETHNIC (that) peace out
Leslie, it does not mean Paddy's work is TRUE. No. Remember it is a THESIS. Do some look up on that. Theories are not absolute. I can go and get my Phd (if I ever go back to school) and write my own thesis based on my own belief and what I intend to prove and it CAN be the opposite of Paddy's, and I probably will get my PhD. Does that mean my theory is absolute? no! People can either take it or shove it in the garbage.

@gamaswanderings That goes for those hearing people who research on Deaf people, you have no problem with those, HUH? I think you are very hypocrite, just because you would say something to those who are Deaf. That is low of you, but again, that is your choice. I think you missed the point, again and again.

I hate to bring this up, but just because a person got their Ph.D. does not necessarily mean they did good work. I know some people (like Paulette Caswell) who got their Ph.D. by writing (wrong things) about Deaf people, but stocked their committee with people who know NOTHING about Deaf culture or Deaf people. Their committees basically just accepted them at their word based on what they read. But I'm sure that was not the case with Paddy Ladd -- he must have had sociologists, etc. in cmtee

@DrDonGCSUS Yes, you are right, That applies for hearing people who study Deaf people. In general, some Deaf people would feel comfortable or agreeable with hearing people. That does not make any sense! Not many Deaf people have Ph.D degrees, compare to hearing people, but hearing people are more stigmated with the conclusion, based on their one-sided views. No differences here, right?

Today's my birthday and it was so beautiful way of putting deaf people to REALIZE that WE do have a deaf culture of our own, therefore they are struggling to find their own or they are in state of DENIAL and they cannot avoid in this world because they are DEAF human beings, period. There's no shame in being deaf as for those people, are too ashamed to be DEAF which i will never understand at all......Cheers!
