  • No one performs Shostakovich with such passion as he does.Straight from the heart.Very moving.

  • This guy's hair just adds to the intensity

  • I like to think the composer would appreciated the rawness of Maisky's playing. He always gave performers liberty with his music.

  • Oh my Gosh,, I had an orasm (musical orgasm) with the final part!!

  • @ThereIsNoArbiter I mean, have you heard the Shafran/Shostakovich recording of the cello sonata mvmt 2? It's got the composer playing in it, so it must be the definitive version, right?

I'd like to hear anyone claim that that recording is the definitive performance of that movement. It's without a doubt, a really interesting interpretation, but it is NOT the "best" version.

Besides, "best" is also a pretty ridiculous term to throw around when dealing with classical music.

  • @ThereIsNoArbiter @ThereIsNoArbiter Uhhhhh. How many ways can I say "No" ? That is the most flawed and honestly, ridiculously idiotic comment I've ever heard. "It was written for someone, so their version is the definitive version" ? Really?

What would the point be in becoming a professional soloist, if everyone dismissed your performance because apparently, whoever it was written for is the better version?

  • @KRAZY685 Not everyone copies Slava. And the piece was freakin' written for him anyway, so technically his version is the version it should be based on. It is the best version
