Veterinarian Lori Corriveau at Purdue Universitys School of Veterinary Medicine recently removed a malignant abdominal tumor weighing about 2.2 pounds from a koi, named Karla, owned by Dick Thomas of Lafayette.

With an increasing availability of sophisticated apparatus and modes of veterinary treatment, a growing number of pet-owners are opting to have their pets undergo the latest medical procedures to increase their longevity.

  • lovely fish. i wish it good health and that the tumor never returns.

  • Worth every cents to save this nishikigoi.

  • poor thing. beautiful though!

  • Ya know, with koi, it's sometimes worth it. Really high quality fish can be 10k or more in value.

  • oh my goodness. Is a fish really a pet? If that were my fish, I would give her a last meal of Dom and fresh worms and then use her for sushi. After dinner, I would call a local shelter and donate twelve hundred dollars to save real pets, like cats and dogs. They say there is one born every minute. God bless your fish; I hope she lives long enough to collect social security. P.S. Can you send me some money for my grasshoppers heart transplant?
