the main dialect used in KL, ipoh and other places near KL and ipoh is cantonese. therefore, most of them don know hokkien. if hokkien ppl live in these areas, they will then know to speak both hokkien and cantonese.

in fact, almost all chinese malaysians understand cantonese. some indians and malays in kl speak cantonese as well. in penang, you also can find indians and malays who can speak hokkien/台语. so don be surprised if you meet some of them....

it's normal for chinese malaysians to be able to speak both cantonese & hokkien/台语, malay, mandarin and english. some understand cantonese but don speak cantonese well. don forget, our ancestors migrated from guangdong or hokkien to malaysia. those who speak cantonese live hokkien-speaking area will know speak both cantonese and hokkien, which you can find in Penang. some hokkien know to speak cantonese but most hokkien understand cantonese because of hong kong movies...

剛剛翻查了資料,靜茹的籍貫是廣東順德

也就是說她家族是廣東人,廣東話標準是理所當然的...反而國語­不一定標準(因為我也是順德人...)
