A tad sloppy on the hi hat barks, this is the correct Fool In The Rain drum pattern/shuffle.
This is the first video I put on You Tube.

  • Wow, great job!. I remember the first time I tried this beat and I thought, " oh this will be a breeze". LOL . NOT. This riff is a lot tougher to play then people realize. I mean it just sounds like a shuffle beat, but if you have never played it before, give it a shot. Do not forget to include all the snare drum shots. Great job !

  • @jordanjcm Thank you!

  • this is the best vid that I've seen on YT covering this beat. I have long argued with many people that he only plays 2 ghost notes!! however, he does play the 2 ghosts during the ride section with the 8th note triplets, its a little hard to hear due to the overtone from his ride cymbal but it's definitely there.

  • @gregmartyr Thanks for the compliment! I usually do play ghost notes in the ride section, but a lot of folks confuse the closing of the rocking-foot hi hat in the ride section as snare ghost notes. When I play the ride section I ghost the snare at the exact same point as the closing of the hat. I'm not sure of Bonham actually does that on the recording though, it's hard to tell.. (I re-wrote this response as I mis-explained what I was trying to say..)

  • Gay drum set.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU Now this is a very straight set! His three concubines (a Tama, Pearl & Mapex) were over just last night, and their groans kept me up for hours!

  • @stroketheboat I once commented on another guys version of this song and mentioned the 2 ghost note thing, and he totally went off his head at me and told me I didnt know what I was on about and then he blocked me from his channel haha no great loss to me his vid was not only wrong it was crap too!

  • @bonzoleum Hey nice job. In the first two bars of the song, you can basically hear the root of the beat that he plays and alters a little bit here and there. The beginning of the second bar has a ghost note on the second triplet while the first beat does not.

  • shuffle Rythm

    amazing

  • @gregmartyr I've had exactly the same argument with so many of my friends too - I thought I was the only person who could only hear 2 ghosts!

  • @Drumheller477 Playing with the butt ends of the sticks can produce a "fatter" sound (e.g., greater volume)...

  • @gregmartyr I appreciate that you mentioned about the kick placements...kicks occur on the 3rd stroke of the 4th triplet and on the 1st stroke of the 1st triplet - leaving a "double-kick" as one measure leads into the next measure...

  • I'm 16 and I can play this beat! Love it!

  • @gregmartyr

Thank you! Long live to Bonham's patterns! ;)

  • @jhbonzo1981 I have seen the first vid you suggested ...its wrong! The guy in the video even starts the beat incorrectly by adding an extra kick drum (that note is actually the last beat of the bar, notice when he counts it in the first kick isn't on 1) I own an audio copy of the out takes and have meticulously studied it including analysing the wave form and there are only 2 ghost notes - I'll inbox you with a description of it. not enough space to post it here.

  • hey man how come you play with your sticks backwards?
