I'm doing this one lukemorse1 style because I didn't want it to seem like just another review. Actually I didn't want it to seem like a Review of Street Fighter II at all. This is more like "me enjoying SFII on the PC Engine" and I was!

Granted I was talking so much it turned out to be a review of Street Fighter II on the PCE anyway!

Enjoy

  • This port is available for download on the Wii and I'm so tempted to download it, I've already downloaded Fighting Street, have you played that? I love the look of that interface unit, I understand the interface unit for the American Turbografx 16 looks very different, in my opinion the one you have looks far better, to me at least.

  • @Lachlant1984 The the interface unit on the TG16 goes underneith the TG16 and then back further and the CDROM drive sits sort of on top near the back of the TG16. Yeah the PCE and PCE CD-ROM in general all looks better than our TG16 and CD-ROM here if you ask me! I've played Fighting Street but only shortly on emulation.

  • Balrogs name is M Bison? what the hell and Vega is Balrog? 1:56

  • Yep that's how it was in the Japanese version they changed them around over here.

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah, I've seen pictures of the TG-16 interface unit and CD drive on Spida1a's channel, and yes the PC-Entine system looks for more neater and attractive and organised and generally better. Of course the pC-Engine and TG-16 weren't even available here in Australia, as far as I understand NEC didn't even distribute it down here, so it's a bit interesting but nonetheless great that Nintendo have made these games available for download and NEO-GEO games too.

  • @MN12BIRD If you like SF2, you should try GGPO . It's basically an online arcade emulator. There's usually about 200 of us playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo at any time.

  • I have this game - you're right it is great looking. I also think the sound samples are fantastic. How do you allocate buttons when using a 6 button pad as the options screen only lets you allocate 3 buttons plus lets you choose which button to switch between kicks & punches. Does the options screen change when using a 6 button pad?

  • @academicninja

Right. The PC Engine (minus the CD-ROM, that is) had weaker audio capabilities overall than the SNES (or the Genesis). Remember that it's essentially an 8-bit system with 16-bit graphics. Still, graphically, I'd say the system exceeds the Genesis and is roughly on par with the SNES (better in some ways, worse in others).

  • Just watched this again. One thing worth mentioning is that, yeah, the Genesis and PCE 6-button controllers were better for SFII. But in the case of the PC Engine, and also by and large in the case of the Genesis, not that many games supported the 6-button controllers, so most people, especially in the beginning, were buying them for SFII.

So with that in mind, it's no different from buying a fighting controller for SNES, and you can't really compare the games on the basis of the controllers.

  • Awesome cat. lol.
