If you're migrating to a new Mac that uses OS X 10.3 Panther or later, transferring your files from the old computer to the new one is a breeze. With the proper FireWire cable, you can use the built-in Migration Assistant to move all your files to your new Mac.

  • hey but when yo transfer the files the old mac will have no data (files) ?

does it have to be an old mac?

  • can you do this same thing with a ethernet cord?

  • Quick question. This transfers EVERYTHING am I correct? And once it's transferred, is all of the data stored in a certain folder or does it just organize like how it was on your previous mac?

  • where to get the cables?

  • @framedheart you can get an 800 - 400 cable or adapter, i'm going to try this when the cable arrives, i would like to know if i can migrate everything from my old 12" G4 to my macbook pro, since the macbook pro is no longer new and it is starting to hold my photos and some new software i am curious to know if the migration will change any of my new software or new files on the macbook, i can't find much information about migrating a powerbook g4 - a used macbook pro
