I also remembering that the original planning had all the angels coming from the moon (they are all born from Adam - tree of life - save for humans (lilim) which came from Lilith in the white moon (geofront). That pit could be where Adam was unearthed.

I agree I think it's Adam (black moon?). There was a quick cut scene from the ova directors edition of what appeared to be two evas essentially merged at the torso. As if that's how shogouki was cloned from Lilith (hence legless in terminal dogma. Based on the pit appearing not long enough for legs, and what looks like a blood trail (Lcl?) where kaworu is standing..... Adams soul pondering it's true body? I'm speculating of course!

Hm... I've seen some footage somewhere (don't remember exactly :/ ) of Rebuild of NGE.
It showed some footage of Asuka in a new plugsuit, while wearing a patch on her left eye and some military medals.
It also showed EVA 06, which I assume is the wrapped-up "Lilith-like" dude in the video.
I found somewhere else a picture of Shinji with freaky red eyes (and FANGS), wearing a long black coat.
One picture showed him charging towards Gendo.
