The Summit Award is the American Society of Association Executive's (ASAE) highest honor for associations that, through their volunteer activities, programs and services, confront critical challenges in the areas of education, safety, skills training, ethics, civic involvement and business innovation.
ASHA won the 2007 Summit Award for its Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) campaign which promotes hearing screening of newborns at birth.

I am amazed at how the American Speech Language Hearing Association cannot devote the same effort and resources towards disability rights legislation. ASHA leadership made a deliberate decision to sit on the sidelines while most special needs groups fought for critical disability issues such as the ADA Restoration Act, access to healthcare, access to Federal buildings and courthouses, and preventing employment discrimination. ASHA is easily the most hypocritical association around!!
