The film shows the heroic defense of Brest Fortress, which has taken upon the first stroke of German fascist invaders on June 22 1941.

Events of first days of defense are being described with documental accuracy. The film tells about three main resistance zones, headed by the regiment commander, Pyotr Mikhailovich Gavrilov (Аlexander Korshunov), the commissar Efim Moiseevich Fomin (Pavel Derevyanko) and the head of the 9th frontier outpost, Andrey Mitrofanovich Kizhevatov (Аndrey Merzlikin). All heroes are tied by the story of Sashka Akimov (Аlyosha Kopashov). We see film events by his eyes.

Sasha's prototype was a fifteen years old Petya Klypa, one of few defendants of Brest Fortress, who have survived.

The film is not only a war story, relations between protagonists are also an important part of the film.

But the main idea of the film is best formulated in the scripture, found on the wall of one of casemates - 'die but don't surrender'.

  • Great, great movie. The uniforms, buildings, weapons... everything looks real, the Germans too. The combat scenes and explosions are just amazing. A must-see for everyone who enjoys war movies/WW2.

  • That was just a fantastic war movie with lots of good action and a nice story. A lot better than most of the american hollywood bullshit. I´ve seen it with subtitles which makes it kinda more realistic. I would have had problems seein it in my language cuz everyone in the movie would speak one language ....german^^

I really hated that in american movies, the americans speak german and the germans speak some kind of shitty accent. As stated below, this is a must-see.

  • Just watched it,what i can say,o of the best movies ive ever seen.

  • @00Indil00 Absolutely. Even thou there was no armed combat or mass murders of prisoners later on, it was one of most shamefull events in polish history. Difference is- we do not try to deny it. And if we want to be historically correct- it happened before war started. Of course it changes nothing from moral point of view- its stil despicable thing.

  • @RKGalery As well as dividing of Czechoslovakia by Poland, Germany and Hungary, right?

  • Rrrright. War started in 41. As if Ribbentrop- Molotov pact (warm handshake with same "German fascist invaders" and stabbing Poland in the back on 17th of September 39th never happened....

  • If you get the chance SEE THIS MOVIE! It is the best movie i have ever seen. But i dont think i will ever see it again, it is to hard to see more than once.

  • this movie was AWESOME! I loved every second of it. Russia, make more movies like this!

  • I really wanna see this
