Audi R15: Failure at Le Mans 2009

@Spionsilver Truth be told, Audi's 2009 efforts showed corporate shortsightedness more than courage. They cut their racing program to look like they were saving money. They ended up renting tracks for a huge amount of testing, which didn't accurately replicate race conditions. They would have learned more for less cost by cutting testing to go race, but had to look good in the face of the fiscal crisis.

@gturner38 in the end it is sad.. that only 2 teams are battling..LeMans isn´t only for the win...it is for beating the clock in first place..it is for prestige..pride honor and tradition..dont go under without putting up a descent fight..i liked it when audi raced in 2009 despite all the doubts over the new car..they showed a lot of courage..so did peugeot over the years and they took their shot in 2009..i wonder how long nissan toyota ford mercedes bmw and chevy gonna be scared.. ;)

@Spionsilver I wouldn't say the rest chickened out. The fact is they can't/won't spend the money Audi and Peugeot do, especially if you need to build a diesel to win, which Aston Martin has no need for off the track. So while the petrol cars race for best of the rest, you have a two team competition which Audi lost. While some would say "At least wwe tried," I don't think that's in most top level racer's makeup. When you've won LM 8 times like TK has, why be happy with 3rd?

@gturner38 you can´t win everytime..but you can try..thats what the Audi crew does best.. try and try ,loose some win more and keep pushing until everybody gets sick of it;) still a lot of credit to Peugeot..they are the ones that stand up to the mighty Audi crew..the rest has chickened out long ago cuz they couldn´t compete with TDi..

@Spionsilver 3rd for Audi is failure. They only go to Le Mans to win, especially since they know that Peugeot is the only car that can match them under the current diesel/petrol rules.

3:15 is just amazing - love her
anyway 2009 was no failure at all:) there are so many people who`d give their all to be 3rd in LeMans just once..brandnew car high risk all or nothing ..still they tried and got out alive..

Well, look who's come back to win in 2011...
-
Wish Bentley will come back.

To Audi's credit, they did manage to finish third on the podium at the race, and then next year came back and beat Peugeot to pieces sweeping the podium. @011, who knows, but it will be one epic battle.

@kjaks Problems in the brakes..
Can't wait to see Porsche back in LMP1 kicking some serious diesel asses while going for the overall nr. 17. History will be rewritten in the next few years, I'm pretty sure :)

@DARTCG As long as Audi is racing in LMP, Porsche won't. It wouldn't make sense to have two closely relate manufacturers compete. So, don't expect to see Porsche looking for another overall Le Mans win any time soon. However, we most likely will see Porsche in F1 very soon if those universal engines come out.
