The Central Islip High School Concert Choir (John Anthony, Director) makes its way from Central Islip, NY to one of the most famous locations in the world, St. Peters Basilica at the Vatican in Rome, Italy. The choir performed several songs during the mass. The only complete song in this video is "When Rooks Fly Homeward" by Arthur Baynon. You'll hear the end of Grieg's "Gods Son Has Made Me Free," as well as Randall Thompson's "The Best of Rooms," at the end of the video.

This is awesome. My school chorale sang here too (pity our wind ensemble wasn't allowed to play). We had to go through a whole lot of crap to get through.

Wow John this is so cool! Thayer must be so proud of you and your fellow alumni. I was in a mood today and humming some old tunes and came across this. Even though I am 41 can I be in your choir. Thanks this was a pleasure.

Did you bring an organist to accompany the choir or was the titular organist at St. Peter's given the music in advance or was he/she sight reading it?

Neither. Everything we performed was unaccompanied. The organist only asked what key we would be starting in and at the end he would chime in with a short improvised coda. It was odd.....but honestly, I was just glad we were in the same key at the end of the song!! Imagine if we had gone sharp or flat- that would be have been.....not very nice.
