Maher is right about self-interest too, but I think people benefit from images. They must be inspired. They pay to see spectacular people.

@freshprinceofbalham I think Mark Cuban said it well. Everyone has their cards, but dealing with them and trying to improve your life means working against the odds and the difficulties, including those posed by unreceptive people.

You're implying that any greedy asshole can just be a professional athlete. Do you have any idea how much inner turmoil a person has to go through to achieve that? All the hard work? All the time consumed keeping one's body in pique physical condition?
I'd say someone who can chart his or her own course, set high standards, and reach them through sheer will power is a hero and someone who should be considered a testament to the individual spirit.

Dont agree with his views on disabled people though why should people have to play the cards they were dealt with. Aim high if people just accepted what they had in places like the projects we'd have a lot more drug dealers and thieves on our hands.

I never got in to Politically Incorrect when it was on TV, but after watching a whole lot of librariens videos I have to say that Bill Maher gets some kick ass guests on this show!
