I know this was a while ago, but just wanted to add my 2 cents. I see you both had your hands around the bird. Perhaps a bit too tightly. He just needed to get his wind back.

Being a dove release professional, I can say that this bird has not been trained and it is probably the first time out of the basket! Not good practice! All birds should be trained to return home and will head off as soon as their released if trained.

Actually, we did hire a professional who releases them all the time for The Longaberger Company (woman in the suit on the left). She said that what happened very very very rarely ever happens and believed it was because it was very cold out. We heard that it did actually fly back though. It just wanted to hang around first. :) My mother was not happy at all and wanted a refund- but of course she wouldn't give it because animals can be unpredictable...

I can't believe they are laughing. Lord forgive them for they know not what they do. This is a cruel dove release with a white ring neck dove, which does not have a homing instinct and does not know what to do. For a proper white dove release you need white homing pigeons. They are four times as big and immediately head home. This one is most likely dead by now.

It was a "proper" dove release... no worries. Maybe the birdie was just smaller than you are used to seeing? I don't know, but the woman on the left (in the video) raises the homing pigeons, it just didn't want to fly ;) It eventually did go home though. He just wanted to stick around for the party, I guess ;)
