Nice idea to use fire in order to make you hit the nail faster and avoid being burned at the same time

The wash cloth doesn't make it easier to drive into the board, that's all strength. The wash cloth is there so the back end of the nail doesn't cut into his hand.

Through progressive specific training, trail and error. Oh yes and alot of hot / cold treatments and a whole lot of band-aids.
