The longest running show in broadcast history, longest running drama on TV and arguably the longeset running fictional narrative in history, has come to an end as of Sept. 18, 2009. The 72 year story of _Guiding Light_ began with Rev. John Ruthledge in a Chicago suburb who kept a lamp always lit in his front window to tell passersby that he was there to help them. It eventually changed focus to the Bauer family in a fictional LA suburb. After the Bauers moved to fictional Springfield, they were joined by the Spaulding, Marler, Thorpe, Norris, Reardon, Lewis, Shayne, Cooper, Grant, Boudreau, and Winslow families, and others. Famous alumni include James Earl Jones, Ruby Dee, Cicely Tyson, Billy D Williams, Ian Ziering, John Wesley Shipp, Tim Bacon, Hayden Peniettere, Sherry Stringfield, as well as daytime legends like Beverlee McKinsey, Chris Berneau, Michael Zaslow and Kim Zimmer, Mary Kay Adams, Lisa Brown, Laura Wright, Kassie DePaiva, Vincent Irizarry, Ellen Dolan, Grant Aleksander, Beth Ehlers, Marj Dusay, Ron Raines, Judi Evans, etc.
Throough seven generations of "SORAS'd" characters (the infant who was newborn Michael Bauer in 1952 is now Dusty on ATWT, and Mike Bauer was in his "fifties" by the early 80s), Guiding Light has entertained almost as many generations of fans. It will be missed

  • This is so great!! I love the images you selected :-)

  • Thankyou for posyt.ng this - I loved it - especially the photos of Michael Zaslow what an incredible actor. I stopped watching Guiding Light in 1991 when I moved back to the UK so this was wonderful

  • Beverlee McKinsey was the best actrice on Guiding Light, as Alexandra Spaulding she left you with awe in her role.

  • I never got into GL but I felt that a show with so much history and tenure should have gotten a lot more respect. It should have been picked up by another network or go online...

  • Nice

  • Thanks for sharing this video! Love that song choice too...I'm so melancholy after watching the final episode today. This tribute was just what I needed.

  • Very nice video! Thank you so much for posting it.
