I get dirty looks sometimes when taking pain medication. Why is it so hard for everyone to understand that people in pain have a reason for taking pain medication?
I know this all too well unfortunately. I need to see my doctor every time to get my prescription in hand to give to the pharmacy because I just can't get the medication refilled like any other medication. This is a huge inconvenience and puts more stress on me. People who genuinely need these medications are the ones who are punished. Without the medication I can't work to provided for my family. I certainly do not enjoy life. My doctor told me that Percocet is less dangerous than Tylenol
(part 3) So tomorrow i have a appointment for a new doc and hopefully i can get oxy back. i know it has a bad stigma attached to it. But hey ive tryed just about every pain med on the market and it works the best for me, besides the fentanyl. So i guess my whole point here is, just cuz were young doesn't mean we should let doctors and parents push us into things that we the "pain suffers" don't want to do.
(part 2) Which got to the point were i was on 100 mcg fentanyl patch every other day and 3 30mg oxyIR's a day. Which was a lot but i actually needed it and took it the right way, and didnt get high. Right now i am on 16 mg suboxone for my pain and it works like shit. I some how got talked into going on it by my parents and some new doctor telling me that i needed to start detoxing from these drugs and it would help my pain at the same time. But it has been 4 months and it just doesnt cut it.
(part 1) I agree with you on this issue. My pain is related to a l4-l5 disc herniation and 5 months ago i also had a spinal fusion. I also at the beginning of my injury was treated like some kind of addict by doctors cuz i needed pain meds and i was young(18). But i was fortunate to find a doc who believed me and finally gave me my meds.
To have pain is have certainty. To hear about pain is have doubt.
Other people, even those closest to you, don't get it and won't get it until they're in pain themselves.. TAKE THE PILL. As prescribed. You are NOT a bad person for using pain meds. The people who give you dirty looks aren't bad people, either. They just don't understand. And they live in fear of drugs. If I had a penny for every dirty look I received, I'd be a millionaire!
I've been in chronic pain for over 5 years. I joke with the Pharmacist about being my drug dealer. They have different reactions depending on who is there. Most of them have a good sense of humor about it.
what happens when your dr. changes your appointment and you don't have your regular meds and will be out of them for a week and have to work at a back-breaking job with major stress. Where does one turn? I am suffering immensely.
