  • once we think about, we only still have the Queen Mary, Nomadic, United States, and Queen Elizabeth left. All other great liners have either been lost, scrapped, or sunk. Why not save her when we can

  • The SS United States is now up for sale. Hopefully someone will save her.

  • According to my dad she set the world record for a transatlantic trip back to forth

  • I'd like to see the SS United States be brought to Bremerhaven, restored and be a museum and restaurant ship... or like one part of it in New York and the other part in Bremerhaven... that would be a nice symbol for the transatlantic liner service of the past century

  • according to my father this was/is the most beautiful not-sail-ship in the world... my grandpa once was captain of a small fishing boat and they somehow got right in front of the United States... he told me it felt like a massively huge knife cutting through the water and approaching dangerously fast... slim and beautiful it was, not fat and heavy like today's liners where you'd rather think of a wall than a knife

  • This is a wonderful slide-show!

  • What a beautiful ship! It should be restored to it's former glory by our Government.

  • @mephiles007 Oh that's understandable. Like women are dear to a husband, ships are dear to their builders and captains.

  • @brats817 Think of a ship as a majestic woman, and it's tradition to call a ship a gender. some navies and nationalities call a ship 'he', while others like the UK and US use "she"

  • Makes me wonder......Why are ships called "she"? Doesn't bother me, but I always wonder since they are actually an "it".

  • if your going to save any of these ships. she (SSUS) deserves to be saved.

  • if i get rich in any way, im buyin it....thatll be my big splurge. lol it would sooooooo be worth it.
