  • I mean no disrespect but I keep watching your videos with the sense that you look like somebody famous. Now I realize, you look like Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki. Yes, that's my contribution to this discussion.

  • @JoeDixon Thanks for inviting the comparison. He is a good-looking man...

  • OK, I had a huge argument with someone in the comment section of one of "thepursuitblog"s videos about what makes a true Christian. I gave up... so much circular bullshit. I don't even know if ever want to get involved with that again.

  • @tattooskin72 I think that doing so is largely a fool's errand, because it's highly unlikely that two people will agree unless both accept a certain written confession of faith. I would rather focus on why people believe the things they do, and how those beliefs are going to affect other people.

Thepursuitblog seems like a nice guy, as well as more benign than many of the fundamentalists on YouTube. He's far too theologically conservative for my taste. That can change, of course.

  • Of couse Thepursuitblog is Violentlygraceful; you liberal bastard! ;) lol

Personally I don't swing one way or the other. There are things theologically and biblically that I don't like about conservatives or liberal Christians, but I feel like putting labels on people might create preconceived notions of how the discussion is going to run, so I prefer to take it case by case.

  • @hippo11222 Thepursuitblog is a good guy. He's a bit theologically conservative for my liking, but that can change. ;) There are well thought-out positions on both the conservative and liberal ends of the theological spectrum. Conservatives haven't all been co-opted by the corporate religion of mainstream evangelicalism, and liberals aren't all green tea drinking hippies.

  • The Orthodox Church doesnot tell us do rely on the NT, why did you say Orthodox? I fully agree with you about the Atheists and the first part of the "christian" facepalm arguments. I just have trouble with your use of the word Orthodox and proselytize since those words can't ever go together

  • Great points, I often defend moderates since some atheist mock moderates for the mistakes of the fundamentalist

  • Hey nice job with this! I tell Christians, they are not real Christians when they start to unload on me on how I am a sinner. It's a way of neutralizing the situation. It works good!

  • As someone who is considering becoming a "young Orthodox proselyte", I mostly agree with you. I don't think the Gospel writers were trying to make an unbiased biography of the events of Christ. And I don't think that a belief that we can experience God empirically is a good one.

  • The No True Christian fallacy is one that I've also seen Christians use as well against other denominations. This usually occurs when someone makes an argument against a particular belief they've seen, and people who don't hold that belief attack it saying that's not the belief they hold, and thus missing the point entirely.

  • @violentlygraceful I've never argued with him personally. I generally enjoy listening to him, even if I don't really agree with him too much. He's better than most.
