NJ Rep. Robert Andrews discusses U.S.-Taiwan FTA and ECFA (Also watch the below companion clip!)

At a briefing on Capitol Hill on April 28, 2010, Rep. Robert Andrews (D-NJ) voiced support for a U.S.-Taiwan Free Trade Agreement and warned of the dangers that a soon-to-be-concluded "Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA)" between Taiwan and China poses for democratic Taiwan.

@lovelyhsu you are quite naive. Taiwan needs as much help as possible in order to stand up against China's threat. ECFA is a perfect example, using economic frame work as a cage to swallow Taiwan without military weapons. so you think Taiwan can and should fight the battle alone? No, it needs help from the US, Japan and allies. no country is truly helping other nations without rewards but Taiwan is safer with the US on its side, rather than China with a regime that has no morality.

@lan0828 because according to the UN charter, only independent nations can join the UN and Taiwan is not. Unless Taiwanese pass the referedum to claim as an independent country, and China which sits on the security council, stops vetoing Taiwan to join the UN, Taiwan will never be able to join. the US does not have the power.

@dun526 台灣不是跟法國買了拉法葉嗎? 不是說不可以跟美國做生意，只是覺得怎麼有人會天真到覺得 "美國人幫我們有甚麼不好?"，這些幫忙都是需要代價的。 像是為什麼美國要賣武器給台灣， 不就是因為台灣先答應跟美國人買牛肉了嗎?

@t0144234 美國人不會幫忙我們 美國人只會賣我們不好的東西 武器 美國牛。你看 這次CNN 訪問馬英九 就是為了要讓台灣只跟美國買武器 但是台灣萬一出事了 他才不想幫忙我們 (除非我們跟他們買更多的東西) 美國是一隻黃鼠狼 不是甚麼好貨色
