Hey guys I just installed this Aqua Clear 20 power head mad by Hagen. I wanted more water flow in my tank and this little guy did the trick!!. It can also aerate your water or give your under gravel filter a big jump in power over a conventional air pump.

  • Can this powerhead be used as a biological filter if you leave the aquaclear filter attachment on for awhile? Thanks.

  • @Znobyrd Its a 20 gallon tank. You can use the foam filter attachment as a biological filter. It will also work as a mechanical filter as well since its sucking up what ever is by it.

  • I know a guy that use to own a fish store that swears by them, i also know some other guys that own a brand new fish store that says they are useless, i just set up a ten gallon with a UG filter, plenty of pea gravel, and two uplift tubes powered by their own vibrator each, and i took my old filter pads from my other tanks and kind of washed them around in the new tank to get it "seeded", i put some wild guppies and some endlers livebearers in there, will let you know how it works out.

  • @Matt68046 okay cool thanks

  • What i want to do is just setup my tanks with UG filters, cycle them with a used sponge filter for about a month, then when all is good, just run the UG filters by itself, not sure why but thats what i am thinking.

  • @Matt68046 Nothing wrong with under gravel filters. Think about it. You never have to buy foam filter pads or replace any filter media. Just vacuum out your gravel once or twice a week and your good to go. Powering an UG filter with these air heads is perfect since they come with adapters to fit onto a UG filter. I may go that route if the Fluval C3 doesn't work out. But so far so good. Either that or an in tank filter.
