Sighnaghi (Signagi) (Georgian: სიღნაღი) is a town in Georgia's easternmost region of Kakheti. As a settlement is first recorded in the early 18th century. In 1762, King Heraclius II of Georgia sponsored the construction of the town and erected a fortress to defend the area from marauding attacks by Dagestan tribesmen.
The venerated Bodbe Monastery is located 2 kilometers from Sighnaghi and is a place of pilgrimage due to its association with St. Nino, the 4th-century apostle of Georgia.
You can visit the museum, where you will be introduced to and impressed with the history of Georgia and well-known artist's collection of pictures of Niko Pirosmani. Walk along the winding streets of fleeing into the distance, visit the old fortress, enjoy stunning views of the Alazani valley, which is surrounded by the Caucasus mountains. You can taste the traditional georgian wine and see hand-knitted carpets.
Sighnaghi is only a 2 hour drive from Tbilisi. It's marketed as the City of Love, and public loving is discouraged. There are many weddings for rich people that take place there.
