Gaijin Channel Report #4: Maiko Dance at Niwaka, FNO 2011

Among all the famous brands featured at Fashion's Night Out Tokyo, was a Kyoto Jeweler known as Niwaka. Their shop was a special treat for the Japan enthusiast, as part of their mission is to introduce art and culture particular to the city of Kyoto to the rest of the world, through their "Kyoto Pop-Up Party" which featured a live, authentic, very traditional Maiko dance.

It looks easy, but it really isnt. Kyo-mai is pretty difficult, the movements are unnatural, its like ballet in some ways, and it takes a lifetime to master.
