This is a detailed instructional video on how to make an insulated outdoor cat house out of a beverage cooler. You can make this cat shelter in under 5 minutes with the right tools. This is great for outdoor feral cats for the winter time during freezing temperatures
well i just want to ask if there is a way to come up with the design which incorporates a 50 watt bulb somehow in a cooler or a box etc..........
maybe one day You ll be interested in creating such a thing...lol.....that would help a lot........too
now they have these red infrared bulbs which heats great ...Im trying to figure out something how to get those together quickly and safely for an outdoor cat shelter.......
thank You so much

if you want to create a bit of a rain shield for this, use some flexible conduit tube cut to fit the hole and secure with some epoxy, the cat can enter and exit and it will keep the rain or snow out of the container. I saw another idea like this using a plastic flower pot with the end cut off and put into the entrance hole, to provide a rain shield. Thanks for the great idea of using an ice chest.

@Pxxcmd How can hay cause an infection? Thanks in advance for your response.

Excellent idea. I plan to take this one step further and add a swivel door and a heating pad on the inside. A cat can still freeze to death inside the cooler if it's not heated and temps drop low enough. There's another youtube video where a guy put in a swivel door from Petco with a heating pad attached to a timer that shuts on and off at a preset temperature. If you plan on doing it this way having a swivel door will hold the heat in considerably and cut down on the cost of heating the inside.

Thanks for making this nice video!
The Cooler Cat Shelter is one of the easiest ways to provide warm shelter for outdoor cats. Coolers are inexpensive, easy to transport, and easy to clean. The opening can be protected and trimmed off by inserting a short section of 6" diameter plastic drain pipe in the hole.
