WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE
The Fifthteenth of my Re-enactment series.
Presenting: a scene from one of the most controversial movies about Christianity ever made. Even before Clerks, Kevin Smith began writing this movie. At the time, the working title was "God." The entire film is Kevin Smith's attempt to get through a crisis of faith he was having. Every word uttered by every character, especially by Damon and Affleck in this scene, comes from questions that Smith asked himself regarding his faith.
In this scene, Bartlbey and Loki, two angels sent to Earth as punishment, have a conversation in a car garage. Bartlbey has an "epiphany," and he decides to try and defy God's will and, with the help of a loophole in Catholic dogma, try and get back into heaven. Loki, played by Damon, feels that something is wrong and points out that he sounds just like Lucifer.
I did a few things I haven't done before to make this video more like the original...
- Got my haircut in between characters - Did nearly the entire video handheld - Added a "Cathedral" echo to make it seem more like a parking garage - Mirrored about 90% of the video to make it similar to the original setting
In switching hands in the end, I think I violated the 180 degree rule... but I think it worked out.
I'm a Christian myself, and even if you don't like the movie, you have to at least appreciate the genius dialogue of Kevin Smith. He raises so many questions regarding Christianity, and has created a great movie that's both good theologically and funny as hell.
