So, any ideas? Is there an officially recognised name to describe the noise this cat makes? By the way, the cat in question is called Silchar. (I sometimes call him "Silch", as in the video.)

  • It's a "PURRRRUP" !

  • @LaVonBain I see what you did there! Sweet... =^_^=

  • That particular sound was a Trill. I mix between purring and meowing. Chirruping happens too. But that sounded more like a Trill.

  • @valareksic Thanks for your comment. :-) Yes...I've heard of that term before... I may have a look for other examples on YT to compare/contrast!

  • He's just greeting you, saying hello :) it's nothing weird - just your cat being friendly :D

I studdy animal behaviour at college :) ♥

  • Our fat kitty named Tubby does that same 'trilling' sound too when he greets us or when he wants some affection or treats. Always thought that cat sound was a trill. Also saw on a website it can be called a 'chirrup' too. Like ur comments below seem to agree. Believe or not our female cat Kina does a doggy whining sound too. Like a high pitched "uummmmh..uummmmh..uummmh!" She makes that whiny sound when she wants to be held.

  • @nahbios Thank you :) x

  • @justinefiona94 Basically it's called a chirrup or a chirp. If it starts making chattering noises at birds, it's cute so watch them! :)

  • @nyxy333 Oddly enough, there's a similar situation at home at the moment: we have a relatively new (tabby) kitten as well, and I believe she's the first to chirrup while still a kitten, while our other (tortoiseshell) kitten only meows. Both are so cute in their own ways, naturally!
