http://www.wood-burning-stoves.org is a great place to learn about buying a wood burning stove. Wood burning stoves are not only cheap, easy to use but they can save you a ton of money this winter during the gas hike. As long as gas prices continue to climb look for alternative ways to heat and eat. Use a wood burning stove. // created at http://animoto.com
@blurfist I'd love to meet one, but you seem pretty screwed up, on the other hand.

i live in a fairly populated city. And when ever you come into my neighborhood it smells like bonfires of fireplace. i love that smell. grew up with it. it smells like home to me. lol, but im serious. all my neighbors dont mind the smell. its when you burn 10tons of leaves is when they complain.

my pellet stove produces smoke only for 15 minutes during startup, even then its not much smoke. i live in a rural community where everyone burns wood or pellets, works no problems here. i dont like natural gas, just another large gready corp., national fuel

I truly hope that all of the people who think that there is nothing wrong with spewing smoke into your neighbors yards have an awakening. It may be that you age with terrible lung issues, tha a neighbor sues you silly, or that your community puts a halt to your destruction.

All I have to say is wow! These comments show how stubborn, uncaring and destructive you are.

sorry but you are wrong.. do a little research on new stoves. Burning wood is cleaner then coal fired furnaces generating power.. new stoves burn so clean all you get is a heat wave out of the chimney.

Wow. So, you're going to label me a "hippie" because I am being forced to breathe smoke while in my home that isn't produced by myself and am upset about it. I really don't understand your reasoning behind that one.
You want to talk combustion? I'm living next to a wood stove that doesn't burn all. It is a nasty, filth producing box that is polluting my neighborhood. I wouldn't spend my time on here if that wasn't true. And by the way, I'm slender.

well when that time comes ill be sure to give the middle finger to society that it so truly deserves

@educationforu
You need to go environmental, mechanical, and electrical engineering school.
If you did you would learn how full of shit you really are.
You need to learn the difference between complete VS incomplete combustion.
You need to learn what it takes to make the lights in your house light up.
You need to learn about what it really takes to make an engine powerful enough to move your fat ass around the city.
My friend, you are overwhelmed by ignorance.
Again, damn hippie

If you were my neighbor I would vent my forge coal stack, both fireplaces, welding hood, and foundry hood toward your house.
I only put 20% credit or less in government funded science firms as they only show things to scare people to giving away their rights.
The difference between a cigarette and a fire place is simple. We don't smoke a chimney's in 24 packs 3 times a week at max concentration. Germafobes are most likely to die a most futile disease VS someone that plays in dirt.
damn hippie

@educationforu
Only if you rap your mouth around the chimney is it worse the a cigarette.

The current situation isn't so ideal. There are little to no restrictions on wood burning. While there are some who understand the importance of clean burning, it isn't enforced. Many are burning in a filthy manner and endangering their communities. Check out some of the similar channels that are linked to mine. You will find people who live in clouds of smoke. People who have had medical issues and are literally being tortured.

Wow, so should we let children eat lead paint for breakfast? Maybe we should stop filtering water and just take our chances. Better yet, let's just give up all together and stop learning about our environment and how we can live healthier lives. This is why education is so very important. People get frustrated, overwhelmed and just give up. You can change my friend. Help is just a college away!

Just as with cigarette smoking, it's just a matter of time until spewing smoke into the environment will be socially frowned upon. A smoking ban was just passed in my state and I can't wait for it to take affect. Now I need t get rid of the smoke that my neighbor's stove is putting into my yard! Science proves that woodsmoke is 12 times worse for you than cigarette smoke.

Great for your grandpa. I'd not be so quick to discredit the American Lung Association, the EPA, and countless other doctors and scientists.

heating your home with wood isn't dangerous, in fact it's much safer then having a pipe full of pressurized gas running in your home, with an open flame at the end. and much cheaper then an electrical meter spinning around Today's stoves are super efficient, in fact you don't even see smoke coming out of the chimney because it gets burned and turned into heat. Wood heat is cheap, it's clean, and everyone enjoys a warm fire on a cold day.

Warning!!
Science proves that living is dangerous and will cause death.
Reasearch has found that every substance on earth will cause harm to you and your family.
During research they found that in one day, the earth naturally emits more toxins then 100,000,000 fireplaces burning at once in a 50 square mile radius for 50 years.
Just ask the enourmous amout of 85+ years olds how they survived all these years using gods natural heat all there lives.

wood burning makes sense even with its downfalls

I live in a cold climate. WInd power is the way to go. At the moment I use natural gas. The problem with wood burning is that it gives off a terribly deadly smoke. If you have a stove that is efficient and can burn the particulate matter from the first burn, that is the optimal way to go at this time. I live near a family that burns (and many other upset people do also) wood in an old stove that sends loads of smoke toward my home. It makes us smell, cough, and just plain sick. Fair? I think not

So what else are we going to use? We don't want the war in Iraq, yet we want oil heat, Propane doesn't have the ticket either. Any suggestions for those that live in cold climates? Solar power??? Nope, can't run a light bulb on that in the winter months.

my grandpa was in his 90's and had used a woodstove all his life.

n addition to particulate matter, woodsmoke emissions contain components such as carbon monoxide; irritant gases such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde, carcinogens and dioxin.
educationforu 2 years ago
AtomicDud - Check your facts. Unless this unit has a second combustion for the smoke (although, there will still be some toxic residue), it is indeed a producer of large particulate mater and carcinogens. What would make you think that wood smoke isn't bad for our lungs?
