this one is verrrrry beautiful!

"I Though I Heard Buddy Bolden Say" was based on a song called "Funky Butt" that Bolden and his band performed circa 1900. Apparently the original lyrics were pretty nasty. This LP has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. Bechet was the best. Thanks for sharing this!

Genial, muchas gracias.

I thought I heard Buddy Bolden say, "Play the old Maple Leaf Rag!"

Yes the great Tommy Ladnier indeed !!!

The third track on here is the superb version of Weary Blues recorded in 1938. Bechet, Mezzrow, Teddy Bunn, Cliff Jackson, Elmer James, Manzie Johnson, and, on trumpet, the great Tommy Ladnier whose contribution to this track surpasses even Bechet.

It's just to say that the singer is the great jazz pianist, composer and creator Jelly Roll Morton, as a bnad leader on these recordings, in 1939.

Great stuff! Bechet's soprano is terrific but listen to his clarinet on Weary Blues. As the Duke said: completely wood and the very epitome of Jazz.
