According to an interview with John Barrowman, that pick up line was made up on the spot for a joke during the rehearsal, he didn't know that it was being filmed and didn't want it to be in the movie but ithat was out of his control.

What do you have against this move? Clearly the acting at 1:37 is some of the greatest the world has ever seen... That dialogue alone should be worthy of some awards.. Appreciate good cinema and don't be such a wanker..
