the protest was for irragation water rights, there was talk of taking away the control of the irragation canals and make the users pay for the water. a very good way to get the farmers all upset, the rest of the mob who do not farm, are there cause they get a chance to throw rocks at cars, light tires on fire in the road, jump up and down and shout... its a minor league sport in many countrys. Oh and of course all protesters get free beer.

why are regular folks blocking the road?  What kind of stupid protest is this? You wonder why civilizations get behind... here is a good example.
