just watch on the other video, Adi Gil is also moving forward into this collission. No doubt, the Japanese turned Starboard, but Adi Gil moved forward at the last moment. In my opinoin, moving backwards or a standstill from Adi Gil could have avoid this crash. So it´s a 50/50% fault.

The Ady Gil was going to go past the bow of the Shonan Maru No.2 like they've don many times, as they were doing so the Shonan Maru No.2 started to speed up to block the Ady Gil. The capt. of the Ady Gil ordered an all stop to let the Shonan Maru No.2 pass, but the Shonan Maru No.2 turned to ram the Ady Gil. the capt. of the Ady Gil then ordered it to back up but by then it was too late.

@simonbryan53 did you forget the AG is a speed boat? speed boat can accelerate in reverse really quick, that's a normal speed boat. AG is the state of the art boat so its reverse capability should be exceptional and would be too easy to avoid that crash. But apparently the captain of the AG decided to play chicken with the SM. And that's how it usually ended, the losers cry and make excuses to prosecute the other...

Not shown in this video is Ady Gils intentional steering to port to achieve a collision course with SM2.  Ady Gil was still under power even at the collision. The kids on the Ady Gil didn't realize the sea state was causing plenty of bow steer on the SM2. They got too close and paid the price. End of story.

The screwed up and caused the collision that would have never happened had the AG maintained course and speed as required by law, they just would have gotten wetter. Im pondering two things . Did the captain of the Japanesse boat yell BANZIA before the collision. Capt Watson looks like Captian Kangarro. Rediculus Behavior on both sides of issue. I guess Maritime Law is not enforced in the Antarctic region.

@jimbo4sex I am in a small fibreglass/kevlar boat with that huge whaler bearing down, I don't deliberatley get in the way, that would be suicide!

The AG may have applied power, that is the only way a boat can maneuver quickly, they do not reverse well and are much less responsive to helm in that situation. They were trying to go hard starboard to parallel the Japanese ship and hopefully just scrape along the side. The whaler is not slowing, but watch how quickly it stops after the crash

If the Ady Gil moved forward at the last minute, it was probably because it was trying an evasive maneuver thinking that the Shonan Maru No.2 was going to continue it's path and pass behind the Ady Gil instead of turning back on course. Think about it. why would anyone deliberately put themselves in front the larger vessel. The video clearly shows Shonan Maru No.2 aggressively trying to intimidate Ady Gil

The angle you have does not show tha the Ady Gil was moving forward towards an impact. If I would have been in charge of the Ady Gil, I would have been backing up as fast as I could, but this was not the case... See the Video from the ship and it shoes the Ady Gil add power just before impact, did we mention the use of lasers either? I think you are lucky and should be brought up on charges. thank you
