First and foremost, this series of videos has been made for the School pupils I am teaching - but as always, anyone is welcome to use them. These videos aim to teach students to write Latin using the grammar forms and vocabulary encountered in the first 13 Chapters of the Oxford Latin Course. The mode of teaching, however, is very different. In the classroom, these video's will be supported by a full program of activities.

Here is a list of Vocabulary introduced in this video. You may wish to copy it into a word file or print it out.

bonus, bona, bonus good
malus, mala, malum bad
parvus, parva, parvum small
magnus, magna, magnum big

  • Great set! One question though - Is it proper to say "est lux mala"? I thought I read somewhere that "mala" refers to moral badness (i.e., people) while quality would use something like "vilis".

  • @JackR0402 I did a quick check of the Oxford Latin Dictionary. While malus can indeed refer to moral badness, the meaning is much broader than this - some examples it gives of things 'malus' are torture, old age, distant shores (to an exile), an unpleasant smell or ugly face, dangerous spells and herbs that are noxious to the body. So, when you read 'lux mala' think tanning beds. Cheers, Anthony
