This is another one from my78 collection, The original Woody Woodpecker song, by Kay Kyser with vocal by Gloria Wood; kind of ironic that someone named Wood would be doing a Woodpecker Song..hehehe It was released on Columbia 38197 in 1948. enjoy...feel free to comment.

  • this song is probably the guiltiest pleasure I have. Also the worst song to have stuck in your head in a solemn occasion...

  • @letternumber9 Thanls for commenting!

  • I have this on a children's 78 which is yellow and only 6 inches in diameter. I used to listen to it when I was a little girl in the 50's. Thank you for the memories!

  • To all you pro wrestling fans out there (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Adolfo Bresciano came into the world (August 6, 1948). Bresciano would become famous as Dino Bravo.

  • FYE - That's Mel Blanc doing Woody's laugh.

  • Add to songlist for Fallout 4 anyone????

  • part of my childhood Woody Woodpecker!

  • The best Andrew Sisters & Glenn Miller song.

  • Love it..Never knew who wrote this until a few weeks ago..thanks

  • Wood pecker wood. gangter tunes

  • @01musicfan : yes, that was a great year for pop music; there were the left over big bands (kyser, les brown with "i've got my love to keep me warm"), gordon jenkins with "maybe you'll be there"). bing had a mega irish hit "galway bay"), vaugan monroe with "ghost riders in the sky", a monster hit which also seemed to be #1 for most of the year. a brit hit was "cruising down the river"... so many i remember from that year when i was 11-12 yrs old

  • Thanks for commenting, there were a lot of great tunes from this era.

  • this and "slowboat to china" were #1 on the martin block hit parade in '48 for seemingly most of the year. i remember feeling bad when they slipped from the top

  • I love Woody too, thanks for commenting.

  • Woody Woodpecker was created in 1940 at the Walter Lantz animation studios for Universal. Back then, Woody's original voice and unique laugh were provided by Mel Blanc -- until he signed a contract with Warner Bros.

Woody arrived on tv in 1957, and by then his voice was provided by Walter Lantz's wife, Grace. The Woody Woodpecker Song was Kay Kyser's final hit to reach #1.

  • Maybe Glenn Miller's - Woodpecker Song?
