An over view of what is actually the oldest surviving Christian homily outside of the New Testament and why it offers no validity to a historical Jesus of the Gospels.

  • "Diatribe" is a poor descriptive word to use about the author [bitter or abusive verbal attack], and shows an odd personal bias. Rather, the letter is an exhortation [emphatic urging] to living and acting with love as Jesus taught and not strife and envy. It's a beautiful letter.

  • "why it offers no validity to a historical Jesus"

Clement discusses Jesus speaking, that's pretty good validation in my view.

I Clement 13;1 "... most of all remembering the words of the Lord Jesus which He spake, teaching forbearance and long-suffering"

Jesus had blood according to Clement, another validation.

1Clem 21:6 "Let us fear the Lord Jesus [Christ], whose blood was given for us."

  • Extremly good video and great info as always :)

    All love from me Jasmine

  • How does appealing to feminism invalidate God?

  • Origen says that 1Clement is stylistically correlated to the Epistle of Barnabas and Hebrews. This is extremely true. These writings rely on and borrow from one another.

  • Irenaeus is the first to equate Clement of Rome with the Clement in the Epistle to the Philippians.

  • I believe Irenaeus mentioned him before Origen
