A simple way to fatten up the sound of an entry level guitar. This guitar is running directly through a Marshall MG-15 amp.

This video shows the tone and output improvement after the installation of a Riffbucker Excess-1 humbucker on my client's guitar.

  • @riffguy , underneath the video it said that you improved the tone using a humbucker ? if the strat only uses single coils, how did you fit the humbucker on there ? i've got a rubbish recently made chinese squier and am wondering how to improve it ?

  • @MrRock356 These guitars have a large pickup cavity, so you can easily fit a humbucker in them. You can also buy a pickguards that fit humbuckers. I cut a larger opening on this particular pickguard though.

  • Riffguy, your vids and obvious skills are awesome! Got a question: as single coils traditionally get wired to 250K pots and humbuckers to 500K ( or at least more than 250K), did you switch the pot in this Squier - and if so, what did you use? I'm guessing it's still wired to the other pickups and they share a common, "master" volume....

  • @sirpazuzu Thanks! I just wired it to the existing 250k pot.

  • @BaktolKillWithGuitar Be careful when making such vague comparisons. A Japanese Squier from the early 80's would be better quality than a 90's Fender made in Mexico, but if you seriously think an Indonesian Squier is better than an American Fender, you're mistaken.

  • @riffguy oh ok, thanks :)

  • @riffguy I know that it's a matter of luck, but i compared squier classic vibe and fender mande in mexico (both new) and squier looked like guitar more expensive than fender mim. Sound was better in fender, but i read about classic vibe series and people say that after channge of pick ups these squiers beat fender mim easly.

  • wow, you got your pickups from hell, it's so heavy :D !

  • dimarzio pickups are good too

  • im getting a Fender Strat in 2 weeks, im maining it have seymour duncun Dimebucker pickups with floyd rose bridge and Eddie Van Halens bumble design. I think it will soud awesome. do all the items that i chose sound good together? or no?

  • I actually liked it more in its original state (with the bridge singlecoil)

sounded more like a strat :P
