The Crazy Creek tree was Discovered by monty larson in 2005, currently the 7th largest ponderosa pine by volume in the world. Diameter at breast height: 7.81 feet, Height: 206.7 feet, Estimated Volume: 3,550 cubic feet. This tree occurs on an alluvial floodplain far up the canyon on the banks of canyon creek in the Trinity Alps . The tree was measured by robert van pelt in 2006 using a laser range finder. Located right off the trail, thousands of people walk right by it without knowing. Just look and you will find it. hint- its just below the boulder creek lakes turnoff.
Back when I worked for the Forest Service in the mid 90's I came across a shattered old Ponderosa on Southfork Mountain, north of Ruth Lake that had a basal diameter of at about twice that shown here, nearby were others of similarly impressive girth. Unfortunately they had all lost their tops and were now only twenty or thirty feet tall, but must have been collosal at one time.

I was up that way several weeks before you filmed this. Just standng next to the tree I knew it was a "record". And right next to the trail.
