FAA Air Traffic Control communications. Audio compiled and sequenced from New York Tracon, Teterboro Tower, LaGuardia Tower, LaGuardia Clearance Delivery, LaGuardia Ground, and LaGuardia Control. Video taken by the US Coast Guard is NOT sequenced with the audio, and serves as visual aid only.

Audio has been cut to eliminate all communications unrelated to Flight 1549 and does not play in real-time.

Video is the property of the US Coast Guard and is therefore in the Public Domain. The audio is the property of the NTSB and FAA, both agencies/associates of the US Federal Government and should also be considered in the public domain.

  • i thought cactus was america west

  • America West and US Airways merged back in 2005, continuing with the US Airways branding as a more recognizable name. They also continued the use of "CACTUS" which all US Airways flights will eventually use, if they don't already.

  • Listen to his voice and how calm he is. This guy is a hero. No question.

  • The controller's tone definitely changes. Even though indirectly, the controller believes the lives of those people were in his hands. All in all good job on the pilots part for staying calm and performing a spectacular landing. Good job on the controller for trying everything in his power to help and last but certainly not least good job on the New York Port Auth on the rapid response!!

  • This is an absolute must-listen.The entire video is less than 6 minutes, and that includes them taxing for takeoff and after the radar contact. The birdstrike happens at about 2:22 and radar contact is lost at 4:05. In that time they discuss four runways at La Guardia, one at Teterboro, stop departures at La Guardia, hand-off to Teterboro AND LAND A PLANE FULL OF PEOPLE IN A RIVER. With what amounts to *no major injuries*, and no deaths. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME???!

  • THATS ACTUALLY GOOD HOW CAPTAIN WASNT PANICING MOST CAPTAIN F UP NY NOT NOWING WHAT TO DO

  • @GUGregg From what I've seen on the TV, these air traffic controllers don't have so many flights on their screens that there would be any real chance of directing two flights, so similiarly numbered as 1529 and 1549, in a climb pattern at the same time. And just in case it happened, ATC gives instructions to another pilot who reports that Sully said he was going in the Hudson. That means the channel is overseen by a group of experienced pilots who can chime in with necessary corrective advice.

  • Surprising that the pilot gets his flight number wrong (says 1539) and somehow the ATC hears 1529. It's like playing a dangerous game of telephone.

  • Dude, don't be a douche...The guy is a hero in my book. Does not matter how much training that you have. Some people could have all of the training in the world and still freeze up in a hot situation. Trust me. Some of the toughest guys I know with extensive training have done it right in front of me.

  • Not technically a hero. Remaining calm is what've been instructed to us. Panicking woudln't help. It will only restrict us from thinking properly.

  • 4:20 this happened right in front of a concorde

  • of us airways
