At 1:24, I actually had a split second of sympathy for Arthur Modell. Then I remembered how he gutted the hearts of the Dawg Pound and uprooted the original Browns to Baltimore.
And oh yeah, that kick was clearly good. It curled after passing the upright
I'm from Denver and bleed orange and blue, but I give the Browns fans a lot of credit for the standing-O they gave their team (and, presumably, the Broncos) after the game was over. You can hear it on the tape as the Broncos celebrate. Classy.
I remember watching that game and thinking it was no good. I still feel that way. As for the Browns defense that day, I felt they not only played PREVENT defense (prevent a win) but I remember Chip Banks looked slow and ineffective. It looked on most plays he tried a delayed blitz.
Plus old Municipal stadium didn't have the nicest field. It was mostly sand. But they both had to play on it.
I'm a neutral observer, but it looked like the ball started to hook AFTER it crossed the upright. I remember watching this game as a kid. Great stuff. The Giants might have the hardware from '86, but the Broncos and the Browns were the true superstars from that postseason.
if the AFC was so great at this time, how come the giants beat their champions twice during the 13 year superbowl victory drought bertween the los angeles raiders and elway's broncos?
Kick was just BARELY within the left upright - it was good. No apparent protest (if any) from the Browns. I'm also assuming that Instant Review was not yet available.
The kick was good, but it was the last win of the year for Denver. Even if the Browns had won this game, the Giants were the best team in the NFL that season. Nothing would stop the G-Men. But this Broncos/Browns game was a great one and is still being talked about.
