Here I have retold a traditional story about a midwife or wisewoman, as they were called in ancient times, and her encounter with the faery realm. As you will find, the woman does in fact attain a kind of wisdom through her strange experience.
I've made a couple of changes to the story - I always add in or take away where I think appropriate. I am not a traditional traditionalist - if a story was meant to be pure and passed on word for word, there would be no room for the imagination or individual beliefs of the storyteller. Storytelling is, after all, a kind of Chinese whispers on a grand scale. I say let's keep this alive by recreating stories and never telling them without thinking how we can bring something new to the experience. That's the real tradition of the oral tradition. Love to all of you who have never grown old. Gothic Molly. x
