Hociel Thomas (july 10,1904 - aug.22,1952)
She was he Sister of George Thomas, and niece of Beuluh "Sippie" Wallace and Hersal Thomas. Hociel Thomas was a direct and effective blues singer, as she showed when she recorded during 1925-26; her records always featured Hersal on piano, and his sudden death in 1926 devastated Hociel, who abandoned her musical career.
Discovered in California by jazz fans, she recorded some fine sides in 1946 with her own capable Texas piano and Mutt Carey on trumpet, and appeared with Kid Ory in 1948, but soon retired again.
In about 1950, she was acquitted of manslaughter after a fight with a sister, in which the sister died and Hociel was blinded.
Hociel Thomas, Lillie Delk Christian - Ain't She Sweet (1927)
This track has nothing to do with Hociel Thomas. It's Lillie Delk Christian singing with (I think) Artie Starks playing clarinet & Johnny St Cyr (Miss Christian's boyfriend at the time) playing banjo. I can't recall who it is playing piano but it may be Richard M. Jones.
