http://www.ted.com After 15 years in the British diplomatic corps, Carne Ross became a "freelance diplomat," running a bold nonprofit that gives small, developing and yet-unrecognized nations a voice in international relations. At the BIF-5 conference, he calls for a new kind of diplomacy that gives voice to small countries, that works with changing boundaries and that welcomes innovation.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate. • I miss the reasonable, thoughtful, bright, scientific, creative TED Talks.

    Where did they go????

  • @unapologeticmind You can call Carne Ross a political mercenary if you like but that is missing the point. This is a man who has highlighted a huge problem within the structure of the UN. There are thousands of ethnic groups ,tribes, etc, whose future is being discussed but they may be represented by a government that may not understand or care what is going to happen to them. Surely you can understand how this is an significant problem that needs to be remedied...

  • @thewabbit10882 Let's first start by appointing UN officials according to the populations of respective countries...currently 60% of the UN office-bearers are US. That's why people hate the UN. How come people are concerned so much about minorities when the majory of the people aren't given a voice? Where the security council seat for India!? That's 1.1 billion people unrepresented!!!

  • @racpembertondual Then I think you should watch Tyler Cowen's talk called "Be suspicious of stories". Chances are you didn't find this talk very interesting because he wasn't telling a story, he was telling the truth.

Anyhow I find this very interesting.

  • Quit crying and ... DON'T WATCH IT .... EINSTEINS

  • new kind of diplomacy ..this is new ..maybe this is the future of diplomacy after all

pps: influence the moment and not the man

  • a great video, I especially liked the description of his 'red pill matrix moment'. That time in life when all you believed in is turned on it's head and you have to choose between living a lie or finding a new direction... can be painful but is ultimately extremely rewarding
